Spoke to Larry Kudlow, John McLaughlin, Salena Zito, re the strange match-up now extant between the earnest Jimmy Stewart figure of Paul Ryan and the Mad King Ludwig of Joe Biden. The “y’all back in chains” remark in North Carolina to a sizably black audience has moved questions of Biden from being sloppy to the possibility that Biden is not rational. Rudy Giuliani told Larry Kudlow on CNBC that there is the matter of Biden’s “mental capacity.”
“Look at their budget and what they’re proposing,” Biden said. “Romney wants to let the – he said in the first hundred days, he is going to let the big banks once again write their own rules. Unchain Wall Street. They are going to put y’all back in chains.”
I asked Salena Zito if Biden was alright? Am told that there is limited access to VPOTUS and that he rarely is open to questions from reporters. There have been routine anecdotes for years, long before the voice-presidency, of Biden’s zany nature.
OFA is scrambling to explain away Biden’s “chains” metaphor by talking of the middle class being “shackled” by the banks. Biden did not say “shackled.” Biden said “chains,” as in slavery. It is unclear if he meant the “they” of banks or the “they” of the Republicans.
When did the OFA becomes an adversary of the banks? When did the Obama presidency move to opposing banks? Is Biden rational? It is a fair question after the run of incidents, after the peculiar day. It’s strange fun to consider a Ludwig VPOTUS. It’s more fun to consider Paul Ryan meets Joe Biden in the Kentucky VPOTUS debate.
Later in the day, Biden attempted to explain away his own remark and awkwardly made it worse: “And I’m told when I made that comment earlier today in Danville, Virginia, the Romney Campaign put out a Tweet, you know Tweets, and went on the air, went on the airwaves saying ‘Biden’s outrageous in saying that – I think I said, instead of unshackled, unchained or – anyway, outrageous to say that, that’s what we meant. I’m using their own words. I got a message for them, if you want to know want to know what’s outrageous, it’s their policies, and the effects of their policies on middle class America, that’s what’s outrageous.”
